Sdružení CESNET v České republice dlouhodobě buduje infrastrukturu datových úložišť, ve které provozuje různé technologie od hierarchických souborových úložišť až po objektová. Ostravské úložiště, které je provozováno v prostorách centra IT4I, je postavené na moderní technologii CEPH. Jedná se o softwarově definované řešení, kdy jsou data ukládána do tzv. objektů, což usnadňuje třídění a jejich další manipulaci.

Řešení je do značné míry nezávislé na hardwaru a celé úložiště je možné velice snadno škálovat. Výhodou je také mimořádně efektivní provoz a pokročilá ochrana proti selhání řešení a ztrátě dat. Ostravské úložiště má souhrnnou hrubou kapacitu 33,673 petabajtů. To je o téměř osm petabajtů více než druhé největší úložiště v Plzni a téměř desetkrát více než úplně první (a nyní vyřazené) úložiště.

e-INFRA představuje infrastrukturu pro vědu a výzkum v České republice. Její součástí je komplexní systém zahrnující zdroje pro přenos dat, ukládání a zpracování vědeckých dat pro všechny, kteří v oboru vědy a výzkumu působí, a to bez ohledu na odvětví. Infrastruktura plní účely jak na národní, tak i na mezinárodní úrovni, kdy poskytuje portfolio služeb v oblasti ICT, bez nichž moderní výzkum a vývoj nemůže být realizován.

Pro realizaci tohoto projektu byly využity pevné disky Seagate Exos X18, které jsou speciálně navržené pro hyperscale cloudová úložiště. Tyto pevné disky jsou vlajkovou lodí enterprise segmentu společnosti Seagate a nabízejí jednu z nejvyšších dostupných kapacit na trhu – 18TB. Jejich spolehlivost a vysoký výkon s vylepšeným ukládáním do mezipaměti z nich dělá logickou volbu pro cloudová datová centra.

Na uzly pro ukládání dat jsme využili servery Lenovo ThinkSystem SR635. Jedná se o 1-socketový server, který podporuje procesory AMD EPYC 7002 Rome a AMD EPYC 7003 Milan. S až 64 jádry na procesor a podporou standardu PCIe 4.0 pro I/O nabízí SR635 maximální výkon jednosocketového serveru v prostorově úsporném provedení 1U. Tento server nabízí 16x DDR4 DIMM slotů pro operační paměť a pojme až 16x 2,5″ disků.
